about

In their musical dialog and radical improvisations Spanish guitarist ANTONIO BRAVO and German film composer and guitarist WILHELM STEGMEIER deconstruct complex wavering noises to hallucinating hypnotic feedbacks that explode into improvised action paintings of colourful contemporary psychedelic soundscapes. Melodic abstract sculptures clash with repetitive rhythmic lines. Sustained, eclipsed and fluent blurred drone clusters, dense collages of various sounds with no pulse, expand in all directions, to merge surprisingly in explosive vertical and horizontal eruptions or fragile sensual microtonal fragments.
ANTONIO BRAVO, Part of the collective “Musica Libre” (Association for the Diffusion of Improvised Music) was co- organizer of the international festival of improvised music ”HURTA CORDEL” in 2000, 2005 and 2006. He has played in the FOCO Orchestra with conductors such as Fred Frith, Peter Kowald, Buch Morris, William Parker or Agustí Fernandez. Over the last few years he has played with groups and soloists from the international scene, such as Maria Joao, Jorge Pardo, Carlos Actis Dato, Jean Palandre, Greg Moore, Valentin Clastier, Germàn Diaz, Merran Laginestra and Phil Durrant. As a regular collaborator with double bass player Baldo Martinez, he has recorded six records. “Proyecto Minho" was selected as the best spanish jazz record of 2008. In the same year, the album “Músicas Populares de la Guerra Civil" with the dúo "Brigada Bravo&Díaz" was selected as second best jazz record of 2008 and included in the top ten of Best International Record for the magazine "Jazz Tokyo". He has performed in numerous jazz and improvised music festivals, including: Festival de Jazz de San Sebastiàn, Getxo, Ibiza, Madrid, Mexico City, Munich, Cologne, Rio de Janeiro, Vienna, Oslo, Belgrado, Manchester, Berlín, Luxemburg, etc.
WILHELM STEGMEIER is a composer of more than 100 soundtracks for film and television. Beyond his orchestral and
electronic compositions influenced by Pierre Jansen, Ennio Morricone, Jerry Fielding, György Ligeti and Luigi Nono, he is a guitarist, educated and inspired by the No New York Scene, Glenn Branca, James Chance and the Contortions, Television, Pere Ubu, as well as British avantgarde bands like Wire and Pop Group. His influences include guitarists like Robert Quine, Pat Place, and Michael Karoli (Can). From his early years he has been interested in liberating sound beyond tradition. Nonos uncompromisingly experimental style in the treatment of composition and emotional expression, Ligeti’s sound textures, and Penderecki’s density and precision, have had a great impact on his musical expression as a composer and guitarist as well as contemporary band projects such as Sunn O))), Russian Circles, Mars Volta with whom he shares the compositional deconstruction of musical clichés.
Two musical personalities explore the sound map of their diverse musical origins, clashing their influences from the free jazz improvised music scene with the deconstructive energy of the avant- garde progressive pop movement performing as an electrified experimental post free noise jazz guitar duo based in Berlin.
DOS PLUS is the audiovisual project of WILLIAM BRAVO DUO featuring the Greek filmmaker and visual artist Eleni Ampelakiotou (TEENAGE RESPONSE, ICH BIN HIER) performing multisensorial interferences of narrative abstract fiction and instant improvised compositions to a visual and sonic resonating experience.
